#Watch This!: Movie Review of Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect (2012)

Arriving at her new college, Beca (Anna Kendrick) finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together. When Beca leads this a cappella singing group out of their traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of college music competitions. Pitch Perfect is an outrageously hilarious laugh-out-loud comedy that also stars Anna Camp (The Help), Brittany Snow (Hairspray) and Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids).

ACA-MAZING ENTERTAINMENT!
Since this is one of my older girls’ favorite movies, I get to watch it at least once a month, the last time being this weekend.
And… even I have to admit it’s fun: absolutely brilliant music, a great plot, with some great laughing-out-loud moments and of course the mandatory love story.
Though the language is not suited for younger kids, for teens and up it is alright; it’s a college movie, let’s not forget that. :)
Basically, Pitch Perfect is a movie about friendship – it shows the Barden Bellas’ way from a bunch of not-perfect individuals to a real dream team.

Here’s a compilation of my favorite scenes, because they say it all:

ONE: The movie starts off with the old Bellas trying to rock the stage at the Lincoln Center at the finals and Aubrey throws up in a really epic – and, of course, utterly disgusting – way.
TWO: Fat Amy introducing herself with some really weird dance moves.
THREE: Beca singing Titanium in the buff in the shower under Chloe’s expectant gaze.
FOUR: Auditions (this is one of the best versions I’ve ever heard of Kelly Clarkson’s Since You Been Gone)
FIVE: Audition Part II: Beca performing Cups.
SIX: The Riff-Off (where the Trebles win unfairly due to a biased referee – BOO!)
SEVEN: The brawl after the Regionals.
EIGHT: Bumper’s Burrito attack.
NINE: The Pool Mash Up
TEN: The Finals
ELEVEN: The Sweetest Apology Ever Followed by the Sweetest Make-up Kiss. *sigh*

See? No use for a plot summary, because this is it in a nutshell. Of course, there are more funny scenes, as well as romantic ones, as well as sad ones: but to find out about them, go watch the movie! It’s worth it!

SUM TOTAL: 5 STARS in the MUSICAL GENRE/ 4 STARS overall
This movie is aca-super, aca-mazing and aca-funny. Sure, it’s a fluffy piece of work, but it’s highly entertaining, the music is great and it makes you sing and dance throughout the whole 90 minutes. For me, one of the best movies in its genre (I’m talking about the last 15 years, that is the era of Glee and High School Musical and Burlesque). And the soundtrack is cool too; absolutely perfect for long drives.
And the best thing: Pitch Perfect 2 is coming in 2015! YEY! (I’ve already promised my girls to go watch it on the big screen)

If you agree with me or in case you absolutely disagree with me, please leave a comment telling me why you love or hate Pitch Perfect. I'm looking forward to your thoughts!
